Notes:

David Columbus Scarborough went by "Lums or Lumb." His cousin, Bob Scarborough married Bannie's sister, Mabel Carter, and the two families lived a few hundred feet apart at Carter's Crossroads, near Lamar, SC.

David Columbus Scarborough and Bannie Carter are buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Carter's Cross Road and Lee State Park road. Also buried there are David's father (John James) and mother (Mary Jane), and grandfather (John Zimmerman Scarborough) and grandmother (Elizabeth Crosswell), and brothers Henry Yancey Scarborough and John C. Scarborough. The tombstone and cemetery plot can be seen at: David Columbus Scarborough's tombstone.

Daughter Ruth Scarborough was asleep in her baby bed when a billy goat got into the house unnoticed, drug her out of the bed, which apparently cause her death.

In the burial plot, there is a large marker with the name "Scarborough." It was felt that this marker was sufficient for George Haynes Scarborough's wife Doris H. Scarborough, as there is only a little metal marker, stuck in the plot on the opposite side of where David Columbus Scarborough & Bannie Malella Carter are buried.

Those identified in this photo (date unknown) are:
3rd from left - David Columbus Scarborough, 4th from left - Emma Carter Witherspoon, seated - Bob Scarborough, and second from right - Mabel Carter Scarborough (Bob's wife).

Emma & Mabel were sisters of Bannie Carter Scarborough (David Columbus Scarborough's wife).

This is a four-generation photo believed to be taken around 1954. Those pictured are (front row): David Carl Scarborough, Jr., David Columbus Scarborough;
(back row): David Carl Scarborough, Sr., William Carl Scarborough.

He graduated from Camden High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II from April 1942 until honorably discharged in November 1945. Parents: William Carl Scarborough and Maude Louise Ross
Siblings: Edna Ruth Scarborough, David Carl Scarborough, Cora Mae Scarborough, Charles Raymond Scarborough and Ida Maude Scarborough
Marriage: Not married
Children: No children
Notes:

Thomas Elvin (went by Elvin) was accidentally killed at age eleven when he and several other boys were playing on the back of a flatbed truck. Apparently the driver told the boys to settle down. But they continued to play, which resulted in a playful push, a bump in the road, and an unfortunate fall. Elvin's head hit the street curb which cracked his skull and caused his death.

The driver, Mr. Willie Gray, was arrested (being a black man didn't help much). Mr. Huff (a telephone lineman), was working on a pole directly above the scene and was an eye witness to what the kids were doing at the time of the accident. When W. C. found out that it was strictly an accident, he went to the jail and had Mr. Gray released.

Thomas Elvin Scarborough is buried in Providence Southern Methodist Church Cemetery, Dalzell, SC. His epitaph reads: "Weep not Father and Mother for me. For I am waiting in Glory for thee."
