With grateful appreciation, the following line of Dowdys was provided by Harry Dowdy (colonelhkd@comcast.net) in the Summer of 2005. Harry has been accumulating information for a book about the Dowdy family. In 2009, Brenda Dowdy (brendatia@msn.com) provided detailed information on both Dr. George T. Dowdy, Sr. (1913 - 2000) and Dr. Lewis C. Dowdy, Sr. (1918 - 2000).
Any information that can be passed along to Harry Dowdy would be most welcomed. Note that the Dowdy spelling (without the "e") seems to have originated around the time of John ("Josh" or "Joshua") H. Dowdy.

He Left His Mark
H. K. Dowdy came to North more than forty years ago.He and Mrs. Dowdy moved in and
immediately became very active in our community in many ways.
"Prof" Dowdy as we called him was a dedicated person to his family, his profession and his
community. He was especially dedicated to his job of teaching and education in the North Schools.
Above all he was a gentleman to every person that he met or was associated with. He and Mrs. Dowdy
reared a family of outstanding citizens who followed and will always follow their parents’ teaching.
He left his mark on every child that he taught. Many of them now are successful in business and other
professions of their choosing. He left his mark on the community through his contribution as a Christian
leader in his church and religious life. |
|
He was a gentleman. Mr. Dowdy could always make you feel like a better person after having talked with him. He never failed to respond to any request that was asked of him in helping to improve and make our country a better place in which to live.
His children can be proud of their heritage. The Town of North will miss him. He left his mark.
